Maximizing Your In-Store Sales

6 Ways to promote your post-holiday sales in-store

Savvy bargain shoppers know the first thing to do when entering a store is check for sale signage. For retailers, this moment is crucial, and the goal is for customers to immediately notice your sale display.

Especially after peak season, when most retailers plan to offer post-holiday discounts, it’s important to put your best foot forward in-store and make your sale stand out. Shoppers seek out these deals, with 60% of consumers planning to shop post-holiday sales.

1. Sale Signage

Your sale signage should be bold, clear, and strategically placed to catch the eye of your customers. Investing in signs that can be modular and refreshed each year are a great way to operate more economically and sustainably.

Bold Colors and Fonts: Choose colors that contrast well with the store background. Use large, readable fonts that can be seen from a distance. Red is always a good choice for “Sale,” followed by yellow for “Clearance.”

Strategic Placement: Position signs where customers are naturally drawn, such as near entry points, checkout areas, and high-traffic aisles.

Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs): Consider implementing ESLs for dynamic pricing that can be updated in real-time.Using add-on signs, colored frames, or decals attached to the ESLs can draw attention to the sale for shoppers.

2. Sign Holders

Use materials that align with your brand and the products being promoted. These are a subtle way to continue your branding throughout your store. Options like acrylic holders or metal stands can add a polished look to your promotions.

Sign holders made from interesting materials make great eye-catching options, and you can also design sign holders to accommodate additional topper signage. Also consider adjustable holders for versatility in displaying various sign sizes.

Holders for electric signs, or ESLs can also bring  your look together and add versatility to your messaging. Consider using the sign holder as part of a fixture or even to house material samples or additional product information.

3. Mannequins and Form Covers

Creative Styling: If inventory permits, dress mannequins in a way that showcases sale items, layering pieces together to inspire outfit ideas and multiple purchases.

Form covers that reflect the season or promotional theme are a great way to continue signage throughout stores, communicating sales and messaging in a variety of places and styles. One way to keep bustforms on the salesfloor without having to constantly change quick selling sale items is to use promotional covers on the form.

Interactive Elements: Consider adding signage next to, or even on the mannequin, draping signs on the mannequins’ necks or using special sale aprons or sashes.

4. Fabric Banners

Fabric banners are a great way to define the promo space and for wayfinding as well. They can fit almost any space, whether a vertical pillar or across a wide window. Fabric banners are also convenient as they easily roll up to store and reuse.

  • High-Quality Materials: Choose durable, high-quality fabrics that resist wrinkles and fading for a polished look.
  • Utilize Both Sides: If possible, design banners that are effective from multiple angles to maximize visibility in busy areas.

5. Tabletop Enhancements

As shoppers move through the store, retailers should provide messaging in different ways. Tables provide another creative way to reach shoppers. Incorporate sale messaging on tabletop signs, tablecloths and runners.

Use Branded Tablecloths: Incorporate your logo and brand colors for a professional appearance that reinforces brand identity. Standout colors and sale messaging can help promote the sale and with customer navigation.

6. Rugs and Floor Decals

Rugs and floor decals can be powerful tools for enhancing in-store sales by guiding customer movement and creating an inviting atmosphere. Strategically placed rugs can define specific areas, such as promotions or new product displays, encouraging shoppers to linger and explore.

Vibrant floor decals can draw attention to sales, direct foot traffic towards featured items, or highlight seasonal themes. Together, these elements not only improve the shopping experience but also help convey branding messages, making the store more memorable and enticing for customers.

Stay Organized

Organization is key to calm the chaos during a sale period. Shoppers don’t like digging through a mess, and two-thirds of shoppers report that they have walked out of stores that are too messy, according to Forbes.

Navigation signage and hanger tags help shoppers to easily identify sizes and categories while items such as collapsible bins, knock-down tables and risers are helpful to sort and arrange products conveniently for shoppers.

Sale Shopping Bags

Make your sale even more memorable with special sale shopping bags and packaging.

 Additional Tips for Effective Signage:

  • Seasonal Updates: Regularly refresh your
signage to reflect current promotions, holidays, or new arrivals. Invest in
quality sign holders that can be reused and refreshed with different messages. Form covers, banners, rugs, can also go in the window to get more visibility.
  • Engaging Designs: Incorporate memorable images and graphics that resonate with
your target audience and tell your brand story. Sale signage doesn’t have
to be boring, incorporate your brand personality through creative
    graphics, icons and imagery.
  • Customer Feedback: Monitor customer responses to signage and be willing to
adapt based on what draws attention and drives sales.
  • Create a sale kit that can be repurposed year after year. A comprehensive kit that can be reused each quarter is a great long term investment.
